Harry Potter

So. For those who do not know, I spent the last 10 or so years avoiding all things Harry Potter. Or at least since the first movie came out in 2001 anyway. Why did I do this, one might ask? Well a number of reasons really. First, I was really into LotR at the time and felt that obsessing over two fantasy series at once would be a bit too much, especially since I was in college and all. Second, it sort of became my thing to ignore all things Harry Potter...especially after my Oregon friends tried to force me to watch the first film and I spent the whole time rolled in a ball and covering my ears (true story). But I wasn't morally opposed to it or anything, it just seemed like the right thing to do. But now the hysteria over this business has died down and all the books are published and all but one of the films have been made, I finally jumped on the Harry Potter bandwagon. I just finished book 1, and have the next 4 waiting and ready to be read. I must say I forgot how much I like reading fantasy novels. More than any other sort, I find that fantasy novels have always really intrigued me. Maybe it's just from my childhood love of Where the Wild Things Are, but I just love a good fantasy novel and HP does not disappoint, even though much of the first book is just set-up for what I'm sure will be grand adventures to come. Anyway, I wanted everyone to know that I have finally come around to the HP craze. It's the end of an era.

Today's goal: Be less selfish.

Also, [info]snackbreak's drunk posts from last night this morning were HILARIOUS!

Work is unbearably boring. Guess I'll go make some copies now.

Today's goal for self-improvement: Drive the speed limit.

I know this will be a challenge what with everyone in Tucson being unable or unwilling to go the speed limit, usually to the low end of around 10 under, but try nonetheless.

New Me Day 2

It's blissfully cloudy out today. I do hope it rains because rain in the desert smells amazing and rejuvenates all the sad little brown plant life. A thunderstorm with rain would be even better.

Today's goal for self-improvement: Clean up and rearrange your workspace.

It's time for a change of scenery, and since I spend 7 hours a day, 5 days a week sitting here, this seems like as good a place as any to start.

*Update* A photo of said workspace:

It's never too late to change your life. I think I'll start now. Even if that does sound like the tagline for a Gabriele Muccino film.

Today's goal for self-improvement: Pick up your socks.

Baby steps. Being a better, stronger, more tolerable person won't happen overnight.

I'm thinking of joining Twitter, even though I think it's stupid, just because everyone else is doing it. Thoughts?

Krista has a baby! That's fucking weird. Now exactly half of the people who went to Panama with me have babies. Kim, if you get one, I am going to have to blame the stiff cruise drinks or multiple sun/food comas on increased fertility and never have sex again.

I woke up 40 minutes before my alarm today. Lame.

But the most disturbing thing I've discovered today? Seth Rogen is slightly less than a year older than me, meaning we were the same age for TWO WEEKS. WTF world? I hoped to never have anything in common with Seth Rogen, except maybe being overpaid for a job I do poorly, but now...fuckin' a.

Pancakes

I want to make pancakes, but I have no eggs...or milk...at least not non-expired milk. Guess I'll have to actually go to the grocery store sometime. Eggs may still be hard to come by since this is the day of zombie Jesus and for some reason that means bunnies lay eggs that you have to dye pretty colors and lose in a bush somewhere so it rots and stinks up the place in a few weeks. I wonder if my desire for pancakes is worth getting dressed and going to the store. Probably not, especially since I need lots of stuff and will be quite hungry by the time I actually get back here with eggs and ok milk and will no longer have the energy to make pancakes. Sigh. I knew there was a reason I should have grocery stocked yesterday.

Hello from Ireland! I had to guess this b&b's internet password in order to post this. It took me half an hour, but it was worth it because I missed my internet. The tasty Guinness here nearly makes up for the lack of internet...but not quite. We are currently in Clifden, west of Galway on the Atlantic coast but will be heading back east tomorrow after spending several days driving all along the west coast.

Despite my best efforts (ok, I have put forth no effort whatsoever) I have yet to meet any cute Irish boys to bring back with me. I have seen several though, so if I ever get a chance to come back, maybe I'll hang out in one place long enough to meet some. It is beautiful here, and I have tons of pictures so look for some of those when I return.

Otherwise I just wanted to thank everyone for their b-day wishes and let you all know I still exist. I still maintain that it is best to cuss with an Irish accent. British works too, but Irish just seems oh-so-natural. I wish I had an Irish accent so I wouldn't sound so offensive when I call someone a cunt.

Leave it to the British to freak fish the fuck out.

In an unrelated development, I will be in Phoenix this weekend to celebrate my Jack's b-day and stock up on Ireland stuff. I haven't been to Phoenix in ages. I am most excited.

Sometimes the utterly blissful and utterly awful parts of life just aren't the same if you have no one to share them with. On the other hand, those parts might not be as blissful or as awful if you did...because there's something powerful in being able to claim something as just your own.

Holy shit

I was almost killed this morning on my way back from the grocery store. Fucking idiot drivers. Just because the asshole in front of you turned left doesn't mean you can too. Take your small penis truck and drive it off a cliff where it belongs.

I tripped up the stairs on my way to the mailbox today. That's like the gazillionth time I have tripped up stairs while wearing flip flops. Luckily I did not sever the tip of my toe this time, just scraped it and my knee a little and had to hobble back to my apartment. Flip flops may be dangerous, but I refuse to admit that because they are the greatest shoes ever. I also spent $200 on clothes to wear for work at the Congress. I'll probably still freeze though since none of those things was even long-sleeved, let alone a nice warm coat which is what I went out looking for. At least I got some big pants so I don't have to feel all constricted. The first week of Feb. even though it's Vegas will probably prove to be quite chilly...maybe even downright cold if my experience in mid-January is any indication. I still have a few weekends left, so maybe I can find a sale coat up in Phx. once my piece of shit car is fixed again.

That reminds me that I still don't really know how I'm getting to Vegas. I guess both Paul & Brody are driving, so it seems sort of silly for me to drive separately, but then again I do love driving to Vegas on my own. I guess Elliot will need a place to stay too. Huh.

On an unrelated note, if you eat King Nut peanut butter you should not be surprised when you get salmonella. Just saying.
